THE HIEROPHANT
This card is sometimes called “The Priest.” The Hierophant energy can only be present when we have reached a level of maturity where we realize that the experience of living is about more than our own needs and wants. The Hierophant represents someone who is looking out into the world and asking “how can I be of service?” In the course of our lives we can come to this place many times. Always though, we find ourselves at this place when we want to make changes, go deeper and live life to the fullest. When the Hierophant is present we will be wondering, “what did I come here to do?” “what gives my life meaning?” “what makes me feel alive?” He asks us to see ourselves in a larger context and to find our place there. The Ego, on the other hand, tells us “I am all-important” and “my desires come first.” Much of what we read and see and hear in mainstream culture backs up what the Ego tells us. But always there is a softer voice, a vague yearning that on occasion gains strength and becomes loud enough to drown out the Ego. This is the voice that leads us to our higher calling – the thing that brings us to life and leaves us with deep contentment and satisfaction. This is the voice of the Hierophant.
If you draw the Hierophant card in a tarot spread, you are most likely at a crossroads. What you are doing now is not working for you. You are ready to contemplate changes, big changes, to move your life in a new direction that will be more satisfying. Take your time with the Hierophant – the key word is contemplation. There is no rush. You need to give yourself time to get used to the possibility of a new direction, to let that new direction take shape, and to break it down into doable steps. The first step, though, is the vision. The Hierophant will help you with that. Congratulations! You are on your way to a whole new place in the world!
Many Blessings,
Amanda
